Santa’s cookies and milk alternatives

Traditions have kids leaving out cookies and milk for Santa Claus every Christmas. But when Santa is working hard in cold wintry nights, it makes complete sense to me that he wants to warm up with a nice hot bowl of noodles paired with a cold beer. You’re welcome Santa.

Why Youtube video reviews are making money – Parenting Comic

Why Youtube video reviews are making money

Even my 3 year old toddler wants every toy he has ever seen on those online Youtube toy reviews. I have already purchased a truckload of toys because my toddler keeps watching those Paw Patrol toy reviews and requesting those specific toys. He even wanted to visit all the indoor playgrounds that Blippi has gone to because he has seen Blippi having fun in his Youtube videos. We are from Vancouver, Canada. So visiting those playgrounds would mean long road trips or even flights to the states. At one point, we even drove 3 hours to visit the Funtastic Playtorium located at Bellevue, Washington – one of the indoor playgrounds that Blippi visited in his Youtube video. Yup. My kid is spoiled.

No wonder advertisers are spending millions of dollars and jumping onto the Youtube bandwagon in hopes of reaching their target audience via ads. These online reviews have the power to convert everyday viewers (or toddlers) into sales generating customers. Well played guys, well played. *slow clap

Motherhood headaches

Motherhood is a bundle of joy and truckload of headaches. All you want to do is to get your kid to pick up after himself but things will easily head south.

There is always the battle between “should I let my toddler learn and do it himself? Or should I just do it myself to eliminate headaches altogether?”. I often choose the latter and pray that someday he will be able to survive on his own…

How toddlers add ribbon to a Christmas tree

My toddler is 3 and he loves to help out these days. He wanted to help put up the ribbon on our tree – and he decides to simply hang the entire roll onto a branch. Toddlers are very simple and that’s what makes them so precious. So guess what? I left the roll of ribbon the way it is.

Potty trained toddler pooping in pants

Everyone tells me potty training takes only 3 days. Uh uh. Not for my son. I had to take a week off daycare to potty train my toddler at 3 years old. It was a tough “boring” week because I didn’t want to leave the house. I just wanted to stay put near a washroom. During the first few days my son would do his business anywhere and everywhere. I had to buy more pants. I rewarded my son with a small wrapped toy every time he successfully pees into the toilet. Soon I was running out of toys and my son was still not potty trained… It’s okay. Breathe. He will eventually get it, I reassured myself…

After a week of hard work and great effort from both myself and my toddler, he finally did it! He was potty trained after 7 days. He has been awesome ever since – with the occasional accidents – but that’s okay.

Don’t be pressured or stress out over not potty training early enough or fast enough. Don’t compare to other kids because they all develop at their own pace. Once they get it, they will get it. There is nothing wrong with a child needing more than 3 days to be potty trained. Everyone is different. Fully potty trained kids can poop in their pants too… We all sh*t our pants once in awhile…

Decorating Christmas trees with a toddler

Seeing my toddler decorate the Christmas tree is the cutest thing. With all that concentration and hardwork by a three years old, you would hate to tell him that it sucks, lol. After all, it’s the effort that counts right?

We bought a small Christmas tree so that it’s just the right height and size for our three years old to decorate the entire tree. We would give him a stool to stand on for the higher parts of the tree. He loves it and is super proud of his own creative work.

He would even take down his ornaments a few times to redecorate. It’s a great activity to kill some time!

The benefit of hot coffee in the morning

The benefit of hot coffee in the morning

Mornings suck. Going to work in the morning sucks. Going to work in the morning with a toddler making your morning rush difficult sucks even more. We all just need a good cup of hot coffee to wake up. But sometimes I feel like a cup of hot coffee wakes you up better if you just throw it into your face.

One year ago this month, I lost my job due to company downsizing. I was a motion designer at a TV station. Although it was the worst thing that happened last year, it was also the best thing that happened – and I’m grateful.

I’m grateful for the chance to pursue my passion: publishing a book, drawing online comics, setting up an online shop (20% OFF ENTIRE STORE, FREE SHIPPING, lol).

I’m grateful for all my fans (yes, you) who have been supporting me. Following my comics, messaging me that my cartoons made your day. Letting me know how you no longer feel alone as a mom, as a dad. You all are my motivations to keep drawing, to keep spreading the love and humour in parenting during good times and bad.

My shop launched not too long ago, and I have received all your orders: I am truly thankful for that. It makes me teary when I know so many of you out there appreciate my hard work.

The mission of Summer and Muu is to be your stress reliever – turning your parenting struggles into humour, reassuring that you are not alone. I hope I have achieved that mission and I will continue to strive and deliver more comics to all of you!

Thank you fellow moms and dads!

Applying makeup with a toddler in the house

As a mom who is always in PJs, I’m just trying to look good this holiday season. But I cannot do that without my toddler pulling me around or charging at me like E. Honda from street fighter (I just dated myself). Applying makeup with a toddler in the house is just as bad as applying makeup in a moving car.

Speeding up bedtime routine for kids – Parenting Comic

Tired mom reading bedtime story to toddler child at night in a house

.

Mom looking for story books in bookstore

How can you speed up your kid’s bedtime routine so they go to bed earlier?

It’s getting late. I’m getting tired. My toddler needs to sleep. But he wants to stick to his bedtime routine and won’t skip bedtime stories. Plus, he has to pick the thickest book! So what do I do as a smart mom to speed up bedtime routine? I summarize paragraphs and skip pages. It’s true! I shorten up their bedtime stories, summarize and paraphrase long paragraphs and call it a night, lol. Sometimes my toddler notices and picks another book. But in a lot of cases, if he chose a thick book, skipping and flying through pages become not noticeable and can greatly expedite the process. Cheers.
